Let the Frosting Begin

The Cupcake Mitts are complete and ready for frosting. I am looking forward to spreading out my various threads, beads and fun buttons to make these a very unique pair of handwarmers.

I was so excited about them that I knit another similar pair from the leftover yarn of my Ravelympic Beret so I can frost them as well.

These will make the nicest gifts to knit because they knit up fast. Then the decoration can be personalized.

I will probably be knitting these at Loopy Ewe Spring Fling because they are ultimately portable and easy to memorize. And they can be knit on acrylic dpns so they are TSA friendly. It doesn't get any better than that.

I hope everyone has found their next favorite thing~!

100 Days til Launch

I am so excited to be a part of this upcoming event. I am busy planning what simple knits to take with me and what I want to learn while there. I hope to meet lots of new like-minded folks and make some new fiber friends.

I hope everyone has exciting events to look forward to this year!

Kid Cardi Update - Easter Deadline Approaching

From pieces to the beginning of the finish of the first of two kid cardis destined for Missouri. I have completed the parts for the medium-sized bright red cardi for the youngest niece in Missouri. I have plans to knit a matching kerchief and practice some duplicate stitch on it.

The parts knit up fairly quickly and make a great traveling project. It goes with me to work everyday where I knit for a few minutes in the car before going it to open up the office, then I knit at lunch for 45 minutes and then it goes home with me to accompany my evening movie. Now that I have the parts on the large needle it will stay home where I will knit on it morning and evening while the peacock/teal colored one travels back and forth to get its parts knit.

I still have not gone out to look for the buttons to use on these cardis, however I will be looking soon as the month of March is zipping by. I still have to have them in the mail with plenty of time to arrive at their destination.

FO: Rose Pin

The tea rose is done and assembled. It is a very simple knit. I will be adding a felt round to the back to cover the assembly area as well as providing a solid base to place the pin back.

This rose turns out quite large. I am looking for 2-inch pin backs and, so far, have only found 1-1/2-inch. Will try one of those if that is all I can find.

I am also going to try to cut the pattern down and make a smaller one to see how it looks.

Tomorrow I will be stopping in the outlet store and buying more yarn to make a couple in other colors. I think I saw it available in yellow and lavendar.

My next flower project will be the ones that look like columbines. In the book they are called Moody Blues. Everyone I have showed it to here says they look like columbines. I'll let you know how those turn out.

Until then, I hope everyone is pursuing something that makes them happy!

As Promised: The Knitted Gifts Gallery

After five months of concerted effort and diligent knitting I can present the holiday knitted gifts gallery. I started my planning in March with a list of folks for my holiday knit list. Then I reviewed patterns, chose the ones I wanted and shopped for yarn with specific people in mind. Once it was all gathered, I began knitting the small stuff first. Then life got in the way and I got slowed down.

By August I was re-evaluating my list and had joined Ravelympics. My plan was to get another batch of gifts finished and I managed to do that, seven projects finished in seventeen days.

I have knitted beaded hats and scarves** for all four nieces, plus hats and tudoras for the parents.

I also designed and created a nightcap** for the self-proclaimed oldest living elf in captivity. I am waiting for the report from him about how it works when he wears it to bed.

There are some gifts that failed to get photoed because of the last minute rush to get them finished and wrapped. And there are still a couple on my needles, plus the one for my mom that got wrapped as two skeins of sock yarn with a note - Let there be socks TBK - that will get started next week.

As you can imagine, I am working on my list for 2009 beginning this week. First I have to clean my knitting shelf so I can find the patterns I wanted to do for the 2009 Holiday season. And I have requests from the Evil Elf in Germany that there are needs for more knitted items for his family.

**The beaded hat/scarf and nightcap patterns will be available soon from my blog and linked to Ravelry for anyone who needs to treat the special people in their life to fun knits.

The Final-Push Knits

This is it! The final push to get my gifts finished. As you see, there are still several skeins in the pile to be turned into some special for my recipients.

Loopy has been helping by sitting on my desk, reminding me that every minute counts. In that pile are four gifts so that is not as bad as it looks.

I have to admit that these projects are additions to the list I made last June in preparation for this Christmas. As promised, finished projects have been photoed and will be up on the blog on December 26th.

I hope everyone is to the enjoyment of the season point in their world!

Knit in Public Day at Bancroft Park in Old Colorado

Loopy and I joined a fun group of knitters gathered at Bancroft Park today for World Wide Knit In Public Day. Knitters that call allegiance to Chicks with Sticks, Table Rock Llamas, Knitters Kove, Green Valley Weavers and Knitters and Hollyberry Needleworks were all represented for the event.

We shared projects and knitting views, news, stories and giggles for the afternoon. Several dog walkers cruised by to see what all the fuss was about. It was a nice way to spend a hot afternoon in Colorado Springs with like-minded individuals.

You knitters rock!

And on the homefront: Pedro just wanted to lounge on the neighbor's porch while he watched his swallows fly back and forth to their nest conveniently located in the crook of the drainage pipe above his head.

Hope everyone had cool, fun-filled summer weekend!
