Fabric Postcard - Everyone Needs One of These

I saw this video tutorial at Crafty Gemini.

With leftover charms from the latest charm school project, I created a holiday postcard. This first one is destined for the quilt shop.

I plan to make some more of these and send them out this year. The first one will be a test through the USPS to myself. I want to see how damaged it gets, I may have to mail them in mini manila envelopes so they get there in good shape. More later on the test results.

This is a fun way to use up scraps. I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend.

Bus Pass Holder - Successful!

The second attempt of bus passes were successful.

I am sending all three to CatWithCats and she can choose her favorite. Then, hopefully, will pass on the other two to her fellow riders that might need a lift (RAK activity).

Or, she can use them for luggage tags.

I will be making some more of these for luggage tags myself. They are a really cute way to use a favorite piece of fabric.

Happy crafting to all~!

Not Since 1888

Have we had the opportunity to blend turkey day with a menorah. Here is the explanation to the unique phenomenon:

"Thanksgivukkah is a pop-culture portmanteau neologism given to the convergence of the American holiday of Thanksgiving and the first day of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah on Thursday, November 28, 2013. Thursday, November 28 will not fall during Chanukah again until the year 79811."
Wishing you all a wonderful day with family and friends.

Bus Pass Holder - 1st Test Failed

In my first attempt to sew with clear vinyl I created a test for a bus pass holder for my friend CatWithCats. It was a failure. The opening for the bus pass was too small.

They will be very cute and I will remake them this evening when I get home. It was a learning experience.

Vinyl is not the easiest thing to sew on/with. I used wax paper to sew on the vinyl and that worked well.

These may make up cute for gift card holders, would not need the hardware on them for that purpose.

Hats, Hats and more Hats

At the beginning of the fall, I went through my bucket of bulky weights and decided it was time to destash, so I have been knitting hats to donate.

Today I emptied the bucket and saw that I have quite a few, so the plan is to visit Black Forest on Friday and give them to one of the disaster recovery groups to give out to the fire victims.

I still have yarn to knit and will keep these on the needles for days that I need a mindless project to work on.

In the spirit of thanksgiving, I am grateful for yarn and needles and the skill to use them. Knit On!

Charm School 4 - Lots of Pieces, Lots of Fun

I am so glad I learned  my lesson about doing homework before these classes. The pattern for this one includes lots of little pieces and I would not have learned as much if I had waited to start.

So my starting point was laying out the half square triangles pieces where I discovered I needed 16 squares of medium value to make identify the center X better. Glad I had not gotten too far ahead of myself. :-)

By the end of class, I had half of the center square assembled and one point with instruction of how to finish the assemblage of what is, in essence, a nine-patch square.

My goal is to have the top completed, or be to the point of final questions by Black Friday. Then, while all the other shoppers are crowding somewhere else, I can go to the quilt shop and ask my last questions.

It is a fun design and good practice for matching points. And it looks like I will be able to do this one start to finish on my own machine.

Project notes: Pattern - Little Bites Chip, combined fabric from two charm packs - Sweet Pea by Kansas Troubles and Little Seasonal Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings, background and backing and binding is all from Kansas Troubles.

Tote Bag is Complete

I finished the Jelly Roll Tote and love it. It finished out about 23 by 22, is big enough to fit a project box and more in.

I added a water bottle holster to the lining and two carbiner loops. These items keep me organized and neat.

This is a fun way to use up strips of fabric. Next time I do this I will try combining different width size of strips to give it more interest.

Project notes: this was done with Sweet Pea by Kansas Troubles and the video tutorial Three Totes from One Jelly Roll by Missouri Star Quilting Company. The pattern is also in Quilting Quickly Winter 2013 edition.
